These past few weeks have really been the African experiance. For about a month now we have been without electricity almost every other day. All over East Africa there has been a drought. Tanzania was hit pretty hard in some places but Kenya, our northern neighbor, was hit worse in many areas. After we had been on and off with power for a few days we found out that we were only 35 centimeters from the power being shut off completely until the rains come. We are supplied with power by a hydroelectric plant which was affected greatly by the drought. Therefore, the power is being regulated. The rains have begun to come but aren’t here to the fullest yet. I have had many a dinner by candlelite… which is kind of fun. 🙂 Whenever there is power I feel a rush to get as much done as i can… i never realized how much of a blessing electricity was until it was gone… what a true philosophy of not realizing what you have until its gone. 🙂 The other day I began to pray to God to send the rain. At that moment I realized that this request though initiated by a physical situation needed to be a cry of my heart in the spiritual realm as well. In the physical realm we need the rain so that we can have power. The farmers need it for their crops, for food, to maintain life. In the spiritual realm we need to Holy Spirit to rain down on this land, to move in power, to bring forth the living water that is found in Jesus Christ. He gives us the power to live and fulfill God’s purposes in this land. His presence in this land produces life in people. He helps to draw us closer to Jesus Christ, the one who gives us eternal life.
“O God, you are my God: I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you: my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water.”
All of Tanzania is affected by this spiritual drought. There are 31 known people groups and potentially more that have never even had a taste of the living water that comes through Jesus Christ. (John 4:6-15) God has stirred my heart once more to cry out for Him to send His rain to this land, physically and spiritually. That the rain of the Holy Spirit would cover this land, bringing life to dry places, quenching the thirst of of those that are crying out to know the true and living God.
Please join with me in this prayer for the people of Tanzania. Even as today is the first day of Spring, and the rains are beginning to come in America, be reminded to pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to rain down on this land. I love how vibrant the colors of everything are after a good rain. The plants have perked up and all of the colors are more pronounced. Life is evident within creation. Let the Living Water strengthen and revive your souls. May you be rejuvinated as you let the Holy Spirit rain over you.
Love and Blessings to you all!
